The Hicca Way
Planning permission has now been granted to carry out the work to create a path linking Arlesey Station to Hitchin Station following the River Hiz. It is hoped that the construction work will start early January and that the footpath link between the Glebe Meadows and the Mill Pits will be open in early summer 2012.

Arlesey is a Bedfordshire village situated in the Hiz valley within easy reach from Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and beyond, by bus, train or car.

The walks range from 1-43/4 miles, and one of 9 miles for the energetic walker. Good public houses plus small shops on most routes. The walks pass local rivers, a medieval bridge, lakes and a large country house and have a wide range of wildlife to observe.

The walks were put together by locals for locals, and for people further afield to enjoy the varied countryside around a village listed in the Doomsday Book. All the walks are easy walking.

One pleasant riverside walk (No.2) is easy access with blue badge parking close by and disabled fishing facilities. Good bus and train services to walk starting points - parking is always close by.

If you have been on any of the walks why not send us your comments to help future development.

Maps

The walks are covered by Ordnance Survey Landranger No 153 and Explorer No 193.

Waymarking

Where footpaths leave the highway they are identified by a finger post. All other paths are waymarked with yellow or blue discs. Permissive paths are also marked.

Please respect the needs of wildlife and other visitors by keeping dogs on a lead and under close control. Note that cattle may be grazing the meadows.
